One of our favourites, and certainly one that seems to be most frequently mentioned by our clients are alliums. Alliums, also known as ornamental onions, are grown for their showy flower heads, which come in wide range of sizes and shades of blue, purple, white and yellow. Even when the plants die back, the dried flower heads look attractive in the garden, or can be cut for indoor display. Our own particular favourites are Allium hollandicum ‘Purple Sensation’, Allium schoenoprasum, and Allium stipitatum White Giant.
